GMP Pawnshop #572 Metal Front
So I first saw this one on Ebay back at the end of August. It sold for $1550 + $50 shipping...which was more than I wanted to spend...so I passed.
I am a big fan of metal bodied & metal-topped guitars...and I've always wanted to try out a Pawnshop...So when it showed up again on Ebay a week or so ago with opening bid at $999 & free shipping...I went for it & got it at the opening bid price.
Both times it was listed as having a 58 Gibson PAF in the bridge (which I knew could not be true) and a Duncan JB in the neck. Actually its a Duncan 59 in the neck & a recent Gibson Burstbucker 3 in the bridge.
Its a little banged up...some finish chipping issues...some considerable belt buckle rash on the back that doesn't show up in the pics...but it plays & sounds fantastic.
I am not really a fan of the white finish with the metal top. I think it would look much cooler if it was black or maybe a charcoal gray with the metal top. A restoration may be in order here. Thoughts anyone??
Also...the metal top has some really bad looking clear lacquer sprayed on it that I am very certain did not come from the factory (due to the dull, rough, uneven nature of the clear...as well as the overspray down the sides of the body). So I disassembled it last night to take that metal top off for cleaning & polishing. (A metal top should be at least a little bit shiny.) Here she is apart.
For now...I am just going to remove that nasty clear lacquer from the metal & polish it up...then re-assemble. But there could be some other possibilities for it in the future...Maybe??
